Diagnostics
Urgent Care Vet diagnostic services include: imaging, blood work, urinalysis, microscopic examine, SNAP and drug testing. Our on-site diagnostics assist the Veterinarian in determining the most practical and reasonable treatment plan for your furry companion.
Our Diagnostic Services Include:
Digital Radiography
Digital radiography (x-rays) is a common and invaluable technology for diagnosing and treating diseases and other conditions in cats and dogs. Digital radiography (x-rays) is use to detect and diagnose soft tissue or orthopedic injuries and conditions. Did you know that broken bones, foreign bodies, upper respiratory infections, and even diarrhea and vomiting are all conditions that often require radiography? Our friendly and professional staff is always ready to help by explaining what to expect during this process, or ensuring your pet’s requested digital copies are sent to outside healthcare and insurance providers.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound is another common and invaluable imaging technology in veterinarian practice. Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of soft-tissue, organs, and vessels. Ultrasound image capturing does not require ionizing radiation like radiography (x-rays), and the process is typically performed with minimal restraint or sedation.
In veterinarian practice, it is common for ultrasound imaging to aid in diagnosing conditions in cats and dogs like: abdominal pain, pancreatitis, enlarged abdominal organ, kidney or bladder stones. Ultrasound imaging is also commonly used to assist the Veterinarian during procedures like a needle biopsy or cystocentesis.
Urinalysis
Urinalysis is a laboratory test that uses urine to look for various urinary tract diseases and other systemic disease. Urine is sometimes collected outside by a technician in a process we call “free flow” or “free catch.” Urine samples are also commonly collected by urethral catheterization or cystocentysis. Once the urine is collected, the urine is examined by appearance, odor, and chemistry. The Veterinarian will also examine cells, urine sediment, and bacteria using a microscope. Common symptoms your cat or dog may experience that require a urinalysis are: straining to urinate, not urinating, and blood in the urine. If you pet is experiencing any of these symptoms, immediate medical intervention is essential!
Microscopic Examine
Veterinarians use microscopes to perform urinalysis, parasitology, microbiology, and cytology. Common specimens collected for a microscopic examine include: blood, cells, earwax, feces, parasites, and skin scrapings. Cats or dogs may need a microscopic examination to check for parasites in fecal matter, examine urine content, and to diagnose skin conditions.
SNAP and Drug Testing
SNAP tests are used for detection of several illnesses in cats and dogs. Diagnosing giardia, parvo, pancreatitis, and heartworm are a few conditions that will require a SNAP test during your pet’s visit. We also have drug testing and treatments available if your pet accidently ingests tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
